A one-day International workshop on Applications of Solar Energy Conversion was organized by the Royal Society of Chemistry, South India and the Academy of Sciences, Chennai at School of Chemical Sciences on 8th October, 2014. The purpose of the workshop is to motivate the young researchers and college students to take up research in this important area and create public awareness about the solar energy conversion. Two hundred participants from 15 organizations attended the workshop. The keynote speaker Dr. K. Kalyanasundaram (Laboratory of Photonics & Interfaces, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland) outlined the fundamentals of Dye Sensitized Solar Cells and their fabrication in portable forms. He also demonstrated the conversation of solar energy into electrical energy with the help of solar fans and lights. The participants were given hands on experience in the use of solar panels for different applications.
